The entire staff at Auto Assets would like to congratulate one of our customers for being selected Peoples’ Choice at his first Car Show this past weekend.
Tom C. recently had his grandfathers’ 1974 VW transported to Auto Assets for a recent recommisioning and preparation for modern road use. Tom received the Westy from his grandfather, the original owner of the VW. Tom C. trusted the professionals at Auto Assets to get his 1974 VW Westfalia in tip top running condition, outfitting it with new tires, complete detail inside and out, oil leak repairs, new brakes, etc. Tom and his wife presented their Westy at their first car show and brought home the coveted “Peoples’ Choice” Award at their first outing – The Canal Winchester Music & Arts in the Park – Auto Show. Thanks You Tom for sharing your photos…. We all are very happy for you and your “Peoples’ Choice” Award….
Enjoy these photos.
This is a really neat project… and the oldest car we have worked on at Auto Assets in some time. One of our best customers and friends has recently picked up this piece of history and we are fortunate enough to take care of some of the driveability issues that one encounters when buying a 75 year old car. Here is a nice photo of the car being unloaded at Auto Assets over the winter on one of the worst days of the year. I think we recorded more than a foot the day the car arrived.
Our senior tech JJ is working on replacing the wheel cylinders and rear axle seals on this beast. The hubs required a tool that looks more like it belongs on heavy equipment, but then… they did not make cars lightweight in 1935. Here is a picture of the tool.
Here is a photo of the hubs.
One of our good friends and part time detailer, Andy is painstakingly hand sanding the contours of the Auburn, removing scratches that have been put on the car since its restoration more than 20 years ago! Here is a side by side comparison of the work that he has done on the right, and what it looks like now that he has color sanded and polished the painted surfaces…
This is a photo of the interior. The dashboard looks like a jewel…
We are waiting on replacement parts for the rear end of the car and hope to have it on the road, polished and looking proud the first wekeend in April!!!!
Hope you enjoy the update….

Fixing cars can often be a thankless job that is physically and mentally demanding, occasionally frustrating, but there are days when it is really rewarding. When the car owner, coworker, family member or friend shows a mechanic the respect and appreciation they deserve, it goes a long way toward brightening any mechanic’s day.
Such was the day when we opened the mail at Auto Assets today. We received this nice “Thank You” note card from one of our customers.
We have presented the card to the technician who worked on the car, since we believe it is the technician that made this all possible. Without talented and caring mechanics working on our customer cars, we would not have the possibility of getting a nice thank you from a customer.
We post this note of thanks, not to fish for more, but to share what nice things people can say and do… and how it makes our day here at Auto Assets. Thank you, Marilyn, for taking the time to write a Thank You. We appreciate your recognizing our efforts to return your car clean, properly repaired, and in the same or better condition that when we were trusted with your service work.
